The National Park Service just released their draft environmental review report that will determine the future of Drakes Estero Wilderness
Due to recent legislation, the NPS can not automatically protect Wilderness. Instead, they now have to consider whether to protect the wilderness status of Drakes Estero
or
allow private commercial use of national park wilderness by an oyster company. NPS released their draft Environmental Impact Statement and the public can comment until November 29, 2011. The NPS will make a decision on this matter in early 2012.
Please help prevent commercializing wilderness!

Talking Points:
1) I support ALTERNATIVE A, which allows the oyster company operating permit to expire and finally establishes wilderness at Point Reyes National Seashore, as Congress legislated thirty-five years ago
2) ALTERNATIVE A is the "environmentally preferred alternative" and is the only option consistent with national park policies.
3) I believe the NPS should prioritize the long-standing wilderness designation vision over commercial exploitation of our protected public lands.
4) There are other places to commercially grow oysters, but no replacement for Drakes Estero Wilderness.
